As more research surfaces as to the dangers of chemicals and toxins we are exposed to in our everyday life, several people are turning to natural ingredients. This is why Dr. Petre offers biological dentistry in McKinney. If you are looking for alternative dentistry, Easy Dental is here for you.

What is Biological Dentistry?

So while it sounds great, what exactly is this type of dentistry? Instead of focusing on just the mouth, we look at the health of the entire person. We believe that the body can heal itself given the right tools, whether it be proper nutrition, neurological support, or reducing and treating an infection.

We will look at the health of the entire body, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Dr. Petre prescribes non-traditional methods of treatment such as improving your diet, quitting smoking, or even limiting alcohol intake along with traditional care of your mouth.

Choosing the Right Tools

Biological dentistry also places great emphasis on the tools and materials used when treating patients. First, they use biocompatible, non-toxic materials that will not affect the patient’s immune system, or overall well-being. In our office here at Easy Dental, we use biocompatibility testing. One such test is the Clifford Test or EAV (Electro-Acupuncture according to Voll) testing. We do this to make sure that the materials they are using, while safe, is compatible with that individual patient.

If you have been to a traditional dentist for a cavity and had it filled, did you know that the dentist probably used Amalgam which contains more than 50% mercury? This heavy metal has been known to not only damage the immune system, but the central nervous system as well. We are a mercury-free office and make it a point to remove harmful fillings in a safe, protected environment.

Steps for Optimal Oral Health

Regular dental check-ups, brushing, and flossing are strongly encouraged by Dr. Petre. However, there are other steps to keep your mouth and body in top shape. These include:

  • Sleep, rest, and play
  • Eliminating waste and toxins that are found in food, air, soil, and water
  • Ingesting whole, organic, and seasonally-available foods that are locally grown
  • Drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated
  • Staying active through exercise or regular movement
  • Acquiring and absorbing adequate amounts of vitamins and nutrients
  • Reducing or eliminating stressors
  • Getting back to a state of homeostasis or balance within

Biological Dentistry vs. Traditional Dentistry

Whether a dentist chooses to practice traditional or biological dentistry, that dentist must be board certified from an accredited dental school. Most biological dentists will pursue further education like certifications through Integrative Biological Dental Medicine (IBDM), the International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine (IABDM), or the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT). These dentists focus on both oral and overall health, while traditional dentists may focus on oral health alone.

Both types of dentists will perform exams, cleanings, and standard dental practices like fillings, bridges, or implants, but their approach to them is different. Biological dentists will try to save as much of the tooth as possible rather than recommending crowns or root canals. Additionally, they will use non-toxic materials and only those that are safe for each individual, discovered through biocompatible testing.

Dr. Petre’s Approach

At Easy Dental, Dr. Petre leads the team with thorough knowledge and experience mixed with a passion to help others find solutions to their oral issues. Dr. Daniela Petre graduated from Oregon Health Sciences University with a Doctorate in Dental Medicine in 1999. From that time, she has pursued additional education in the fields of cosmetic dentistry, laser therapy, nutrition, homeopathy, and heavy metal toxicity.

She currently holds a certification in Integrative Biological Dental Medicine, she’s a board-certified naturopathic physician and is accredited through the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology. Dr. Petre is also one of a small handful of dentists that actually qualifies as a SMART Certified IAOMT dentist. This means that she is able to safely remove mercury amalgam fillings while protecting the patient, herself, and her staff.

Our Patients Are Our Priority

True to her beliefs in dentistry, Dr. Petre feels strongly that her patients can’t be truly healthy without a healthy mouth. This belief is what has fueled her desire for further education, as well as her drive to be a mercury-free office and mercury-free dentist. The combination of dental science, advanced technology, experience, and care for her patients makes her successful in treating each patient that walks into her office.

Along with the services she provides, Dr. Petre also believes in the education of her patients. Not only does she treat them, but she provides them with individualized action plans, whether caring for their teeth or improving their diet, so they feel confident they have the tools to make a change. With the right resources, she feels that all of her clients can make strides to achieve a healthy mouth and body.
